The Expendables 2 Videogame

Movies Entertainment

The Expendables 2 gaming (just barely) tells a tale that unfolds shortly prior to the events depicted within the upcoming movie of the identical name. That means you will not have to worry about spoilers as you sort out the game's 20 stages. Apart from a few brief scenes which are surprisingly light on exposition, there isn't really a narrative. The lackluster plot is really as much a benefit because it is an issue, though, due to there being nothing to distract you against focusing on the real action.

Except for some relatively brief and infrequent on-rails sequences that occur in vehicles, The Expendables 2 video game is really a shooter in the vein of Neo Contra, or 2009's G.I. Joe movie tie-in. The experience is viewed from an isometric angle that allows you to see a substantial part of whatever environment you may be navigating, but in this example there are four heroes cooperating to deal pain towards the seemingly endless waves of enemy goons rather than the usual two. Those four heroes could be controlled either by real friends or through the computer, depending on your requirements and circumstances.

The accessible mercenaries each have two primary weapons they are able to switch between, in addition to melee attacks and signature killing moves. Visually the smoothness models resemble the characters within the film franchise, particularly Stallone's character, however the main reason to pick one mercenary over these guys the primary weapon selection. Yin Yang has a simple machine gun plus some deadly throwing knives, as the bulkier Gunner Jensen can choose from a shotgun and a sniper rifle having a laser sight. Barney Ross is really a middle-of-the-road character, meanwhile, and Hale Caesar packs more explosive equipment compared to other guys.

All of them start out quite strong (this option didn't get where they're due to misfiled paperwork), however, you make them even stronger by buying skill and weapon upgrades using the experience points you earn while playing with the campaign. Health, movement speed, and weapon effectiveness can be enhanced slightly, sufficient to make later stages less intimidating although not enough to make them too easy. The differences from a fresh character and something that has been powered might not be substantial, but upgrades still function as a nice reward for the efforts.

If you've played games of the sort in the past, you should not have much trouble with The Expendables 2 around the default Casual difficulty setting. There are some places throughout the campaign in which the action gets crazy enough which you may get unlucky and fail a mission, but generous checkpoint placement typically prevents you against losing much ground, there usually are enough points of cover that four heroes are very capable of cutting a swath through any enemy forces. Additionally, there are the option of the Hardcore setting, if you feel you're up to it.
