Bear Grylls Is Back With New Adventure Series on NBC


The network has ordered eight episodes of extreme competition show "Get Out Alive" from the former Discovery star.

After being let go last year from Discovery, British adventurer Bear Grylls will return to U.S. television in a new Survivor-esque reality show.

NBC Makes Pilot Production Commitment to Joe Port, Joe Wiseman Relationship Comedy Get Out Alive (working title) will "test teams of two beyond their most extreme imaginations,". The network has ordered eight episodes of the series which is set to bow next summer.

Get Out Alive is co-produced by Bear Grylls Ventures and Ben Silverman's Electus.

"To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature,” Paul Telegdy, NBC alternative president, said in a statement. "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits. These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!”

Added Grylls: “Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life. The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward... but first there must be some pain.”

Grylls, who has a large international following, was introduced to U.S. audiences back in 2006 on Discovery's Man vs. Wild. He has also authored multiple survival guides and has several endorsement deals, including with Dockers and Degree deodorant. But the network terminated their relationship with Grylls last March after it was allegedly unable to get Grylls to begin work on  two unannounced projects for Discovery, sources told.

Man vs. Wild Star Bear Grylls Is Back


The erstwhile Man Vs. Wild host will headline and co-produce extreme adventure competition series Get Out Alive with Electus via his Bear Grylls Ventures. 

NBC has ordered eight episodes for the primetime series that will debut next summer. 

Details are scant about the show except that it intends to set teams of two to be tested “beyond their most extreme imaginations in the wild.” Grylls added, “The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward… but first there must be some pain.” Grylls and Man Vs. Wild network Discovery parted ways earlier this year over a contract dispute.

The survival expert and presenter of the worldwide hit TV show Born Survivor will present a two-hour live show where he will share his experiences of survival in some of the world?s toughest environments.The show will be based around a conversation with one of his greatest fans - comedian and broadcaster Merrick Watts.

Grylls' passion for the outdoors was forged during his childhood in the U.K on the Isle of Wight where his late father taught him to climb and sail. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Grylls went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, serving with 21 SAS. 

Despite a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa where he broke his back in three places, Grylls went on to become one of the youngest climbers ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Grylls is perhaps best known for his international TV series "Man vs. Wild" (known as "Born Survivor" in the U.K.), which has achieved a global audience of over 1.2 billion followers and author of his #1 best-selling book "Mud, Sweat and Tears."
